1) Unless:

'Unless' i genellikle 'eğer olmazsa' diyebilmek için kullanıyoruz.

'unless' = 'if not'

'If not' ın ve 'unless' in kullanıldığı cümleleri karşılaştıracak olursak, 'unless' in kullanıldığı cümlenin olumsuz bir yapı içermediğini görürüz.

* If you don't come, I won't invite you again.
===> (Eğer gelmezsen, seni bir daha davet etmeyeceğim.)
* Unless you come, I won't invite you again.
===> (Sen gelmedikçe, seni bir daha davet etmeyeceğim.)

*Unless you leave home at once, you will be late for work.
===> (Derhal evden çıkmazsan, işe geç kalacaksın.)

* You can't pass the Yds exam unless you memorize a lot of words.
===> (Bir sürü kelime ezberlemezsen, yds sınavını geçemezsin.)

2) provided/providing that ,as long as/so long as, only if

Bütün bu yapılar 'if' ile aynı anlamdadır. Sadece anlam biraz daha vurgulanmaktadır.

* You can pass the exam only if you study hard.
==> (Eğer sıkı çalışırsan sınavı geçebilirsin.)
* You can pass the exam provided that you study hard.
==> (Sıkı çalışırsan sınavı geçebilirsin.)
* You can pass the exam providing that you study hard.
==> (Sıkı çalışırsan sınavı geçebilirsin.)
*You can pass the exam as long as you study hard.
==> (Sıkı çalıştığın müddetçe sınavı geçebilirsin.)
* You can pass the exam so long as you study hard.
==> (Sıkı çalıştığın sürece sınavı geçebilirsin.)

3) Even if:
'Even if' cümlede koşul ne olusa olsun bir işin gerçekleştiği ya da gerçekleşeceği yani sonucun değişmeyeceği durumlarda kullanılır.

* We have decided to go on a picnic even if it rains.
==> (Yağmur yağsa bile, biz pikniğe gitmeye karar verdik.)
* I won't forgive him even if he apologizes to me.
==> (O benden özür dilese de onu affetmeyeceğim.)
* Barış would have gone out to even if his father hadn't allowed.
==> (Babası izin vermese de, Barış dışarıya çıkardı.)

4) Whether or not:
'Whether or not' alternatif koşulları sunmak için kullanılmaktadır. Her iki durumda da sonucun değişmeyeceğini göstermektedir.

* I will go to the party whether they invite me or not.
==>(Onlar beni davet etse de etmese de, partiye gideceğim.)

5) Suppose that ; Supposing that ; On condition that ; What if

* Suppose(that) you won the big prize, what would you do?
==> (Farzedelim ki büyük ödülü kazanamadın, ne yapardın?)

* Supposing (that) we miss the train, what shall we do?
==> (Tut ki treni kaçırdık, ne yapacağız?)

* You can take my dictionary on condition that you bring it back by Friday.
==> (Sözlüğümü, cuma günü geri getirmek şartıyla alabilirsin.)

*What if your pay check doesn't arrive in time?
==> (Ya çek ödemen zamanında gelmezse?)

* What if he didn't come tomorrow?
==> (Ya o yarın gelmezse?)

6) In case :
'In case' bir çeşit önlem ifade etmektedir.

'In case ve if' tamamen farklıdır.

*I will take my umbrella in case it rains.
==> (Yağmur yağar diye, şemsiye alacağım.)

*I took my umbrella in case it rained.
==> (Yağmur yağar diye şemsiyemi aldım.)

* I will go to my mother in case she needs help.
==> (Yardıma ihtiyacı olur diye anneme gideceğim.)

*I will go to my mother if she needs help.
==> (Eğer ihtiyacı olursa anneme gideceğim.)

Tenses used with IN CASE
In Case ile Kullanılan Zamanlar

Present Continuous + IN CASE + Present Simple
* Some students are carrying lots of pencils in case they need them.
==> (Bazı öğrenciler, ihtiyaç duyarlar diye bir sürü kalem taşıyor.)

Present Perfect + IN CASE + Can
* I have taken my dictionary in case I can need it.
==> (İhtiyacım olabilir diye sözlüğümü aldım.)

Simple Past + IN CASE + Simple Past * I had a glass of water by my bed in case I got thirsty.
==> (Susarsam diye yatağımın yanına bir bardak su almıştım.)

** Hem şimdiki hem de geçmiş zamanlarda 'should' kullanılabilir. Bu sadece düşük bir ihtimal olduğunu açıklar.

*He would always take his umbrella in case it should rain.
==> (O, yağmur yağar diye, şemsiyesini sürekli yanında taşırdı.)

*I want to give you my phone number in case you should need me.
==> (İhtiyacın olur diye sana telefon numaramı vermek istiyorum.)

** Bazen in case because, for fear that gibi anlamlara gelerek te kullanılabilir.

* I always put some money aside in case I need it urgently.
==> (Acilen ihtiyacım olur diye her zaman para biriktiririm.)
* I always put some money aside because I may need it urgently.
==> (Her zaman para biriktiriyorum çünkü acilen ihtiyaç duyabilirim.)
* I always put some money aside for fear that I may need it urgently.
==> (Acilen ihtiyacım olabilir korkusuyla her zaman para biriktiriyorum.)

7) Otherwise/or (else)
'ya da' , 'aksi halde' , 'yoksa' anlamlarına gelmektedir.

*Tom always eats breakfast. Otherwise he gets hungry.
==> (Tom her zaman kahvaltı eder. Aksi halde acıkır.)
* Tom always eats breakfast, or(else) he gets hungry.
==> (Tom her zaman kahvaltı eder yoksa acıkır.)

8) and
* Stay at home for two days, and you'll feel better.
==> (İki gün bpyunca evde kal, daha iyi hissedeceksin.)
* (=If you stay at home for two days, you'll feel better.)
==> (Eğer iki gün boyunca evde kalırsan, daha iyi hissedeceksin.)

9) But
* I would visit you, but I don't know your address.
==> (Seni ziyaret ederim, ama adresini bilmiyorum.)
*(=I would visit you if I knew your address.)
==> (Eğer adresini bilsem seni ziyaret ederim)

*I would have phoned you, but I didn't know you were ill.
==> (Sana telefon ederdim, ama hasta olduğunu bilmiyordum.)
*(=I would have phoned you if I had known you were ill.)
==> (Eğer hasta olduğunu bilseydim sana telefon ederdim.)

10) But for
'But for' u type 2 ve type 3 için kullanmaktayız.

* My husband pays the fees, but for that I wouldn't be here for a while.
==>(Bir süreleğine burda olmasam eşim ücretleri öder.)
* My husband paid the fees, but for that I wouldn't have been there.
==> (Bir süreliğine burda olmasaydım, eşim ücretleri öderdi.)

* But for your help, I wouldn't pass the exam.
==> (Senin yardımın olmasa, sınavı geçemem.) * I passed the exam. But for your help, I wouldn't have passed it.
==> (Senin yardımın olmasaydı, sınavı geçemezdim.)

11) Without
* I can't possibly finish this job without any help.
==> (Yardımsız bu işi muhtemelen bitiremem.)
* (=I can't possibly finish this job if I don't get any help.)
==> (Eğer hiç yardım almazsam, muhtemelen bu işi bitiremem.)
